Cape Cod Morsels

The Universe has answered my my call and sent us a home away from home where we can spread our wings - at last!

After searching for many years, we found a place we want to call our own.  Just look at our back yard in the photo!

Our condo complex backs up to the National Seashore in Provincetown,  Massachusetts.  I've lost count of how many times we rushed to Herring Cove to watch the sun set in the past 20 plus years.  We used to drive to the end of the Cape just to sit and watch the sun setting and then drive back home to CT.  There is something about the color of the sky out at the end of the cape.   Race Point Beach is one of the most beautiful in the world.   The sounds of gulls, the wind, and waves on the shore whisper stories and tell of secrets the ocean holds.  We are here for but a moment in time - while the sea bears witness to the centuries.  There is something magical about bundling up in layers and blankets to sit and watch the tide come in.  The beach stretches out and at the far end stands a light house. We have found home and we feel like kids again.

Lessons From Baby Blue

This is Baby Blue - our Blue Merle Collie who turned ten years old in August 2009.  Out of nowhere, Blue wasn't taking her daily walks, and then fell down 3 days in a row.  We knew something was very wrong.  When we brought her to the vet for a blood work up and X-Rays we learned that Blue has a herneated disk.  The best we could for for her was to help her to lose 10 pounds.  We've always been careful about how we feed her.  Now she's a senior and has slowed down to a point where it mattered.  We changed her diet according to the veterinarian's recommendations.  Decreasing dry dog food by one third, adding a cup of green beans didn't impress her very much.  Then, we entice her to eat by putting pieces of chicken breast at every meal.  As of her December check up, Blue had dropped 9.8 pounds. She isn't struggling as much to move around and has not fallen.  We keep her off the stairs as much as possible too avoid serious injury.  For 2010, I have decided to follow her lead.  I will substitute 1 cup filler vegetables for 1 cup - 1 serving of carbohydrate/protein and see what happens. Ten pounds is a good drop!

Changing Colors

The seasons have changed -- Autumn brings amazing colors to my neighborhood -- It starts slowly then everythig changes at once. I felt like weeping with wonder this afternoon as vibrant colors danced around me. Acorns fall from the oaks landing in the middle of the road. At first there was a fury of them in September. Neighbors carefully maneuvered around them as we enjoyed the lingering Indian Summer's warmth. Several of us twisted our ankles this season. I walked down the street on September 26th, lost my balance and nearly fell.
This morning I noticed that the acorns are no longer in the street. Instead yellowed, red, green and brown leaves are lining up in their places along either side of the road. The squirrels have been working overtime digging holes and stashing the acorns the car tires were not smashing onto the pavement. When we walk our collie Blue we have to examine her every time we bring her inside - 3 days in a row we have found a tick on her face. The ticks hang around on the leaves waiting for something, anything to come by. I love this time of year.

"I hear talking and I'm quite surprised.
We need quiet we must realize.
we have time each day to run and play..
don't get too gay - don't go astray....When it's noisy we get nothing done --"

My Vinnie just got home from a mini-reunion of his elementary school friends who graduated from Norwalk High School in 1969. I've been thinking about my own elementary school experiences all evening and wondering where the familiar/forgotten faces ended up in life.

I was in Mrs. Sheets' 2nd Grade Class at Saugatuck Elementary School -- in 1960 when this photo was taken. I only recall a few of the names of my classmates here--but if I were to hear their names called off, especially in alphabetical order, I'd be able to identify every face right away. Mrs. Sheets ran a tight ship as I can recall. We learned the vowels through a song - and she would break out into a song if we were talking out of turn--singing the above words until the entire class joined in singing. She had a wonderful way of getting us back on task. I enjoyed Mrs. Sheets and I was lucky to be in her class. By the way, I am the girl with ringlet curls standing in the middle of the back row. Smile!

My 'blogging' journey began when I decided to put up a MySpace page out of curiosity -- I realized that MySpace can be a lot of fun and a great way to catch up with some folks I've not seen or heard about in a long time. I switched over to FaceBook.com and found a lot more people I knew there.

About me:

I am married with two grown daughters.  Melissa is married to Bobby - who goes by Cowboy on MySpace.  Stephanie is pesently single and works in child care and with pets.

Baby Blue is our Blue Merle Collie who was ten in August. Stephanie and I brought her home as a puppy one day in November of 1999. She grew from a little squirt to a beautiful 75 pound dog. You can see her pictures in my albums on FaceBook and MySpace.

I've been self employed to some extent since 1991 -- organizing office filing systems, word processing, and the like. Before that I did administrative work locally. I worked for an adolescent treatment center, a decorating center, and two different church offices. I decided to transition from working in the corporate environment in 1996. It was one of the best decisions of my life.Being self-employed can be a blast -- You need to be committed to accomplish all that is required in a day. It is important to have a routine.

I work with Vinnie, my husband of 37 plus years (who's counting?). We have some interesting times in the office when we both want the laptop or fax machine at the same time -- or when we are both trying to use the same phone line. It's no different than working in an office with others except, we are not on our best behavior for our co-workers so we can say what we really think. For the longevity of the relationship, we learned to treat eachother as we would co-workers in a business office. It is important to be polite to others. The Golden Rule needs to be applied. ************************************

We love the work and have the greatest clients in the universe.

Being self-employed grants immense freedom. I love being able to take walks on the beach whenever the mood hits -- but the mood doesn't hit too often. So I walk around the block instead. I take art classes and participate in several inspiring groups with other entrepreneurs. Life is good - and there isn't a day that passes by when I am not grateful

We were house hunting last weekend. I found a house that triggered my imagination. I am looking for a bright home with a lot of open space. I want a studio where I am able to spread out with my vision boards. Until the right property appears -- I'll keep dreaming and casting my line into the universe.
